Thank you for visiting my website and taking the time to find out more about me, what I believe, and where I stand on the issues.

From 1995-2003, I had the privilege of representing the Lee District on the School Board. But after taking a few years to step back from the process, I'm running again for a county-wide position, because the challenges ahead of us are significant.

I am a big supporter of our public education system.  Our public schools educate more than 85 percent of children in Fairfax County and their success has played a tremendous part in the economic growth of our County.  People – and the businesses that employ them – move here because of our public education system (they sure don’t move here for the traffic!).

Fairfax County has an outstanding school system, but our demographics are dramatically changing. Right now, more than 31,000 Fairfax County students are on "Free and Reduced Meals" coming from, for example, a family of four making less than $38,000 a year. There are more than 22,000 students taking English language courses. And these numbers are increasing every year.

School systems cannot legally choose the students who come to their schools. And that means, as our County changes, our school system must ratchet up its efforts to ensure that this area remains an economic powerhouse in the future, and that all children become contributing members of our neighborhoods, our county and our society.
